Update:
Construction is settling down, and the 8th line is not so bad as of Sept. 20 2012. I will leave these detours up so that people can use them as alternatives if they chose.
This summer the traffic promises to be worse than usual. I have some detours listed here that will get you up to the Alcona diamond without having to brave Innisfil Beach Road, and another alternate route to get you off the 400 and still get up here in good time.
Detour to Alcona Diamond or Camp Greyhound
Exit at the 400 highway exit 85 (Innisfil Beach Road exit) and drive eastbound (turn right) on to Innisfil Beach Road.
You can turn right again at the 10th Sideroad, or Yonge St. (Highway 11/County Road 4) or even the 20th Sideroad to avoid the mess on Innisfil Beach Road, just make sure you turn off of it no later than the 20th sideroad. Once you're right in Alcona you're kind of stuck on IBR. The construction stretches from Jans to St. John Road, so it's quite extensive.
After turning right off of Innisfil Beach Road, drive down to the 7th concession, and turn left. Continue on until you get to St. John's Rd. If you're going to the diamond, turn right and drive south to Kennedy Road (just a few blocks), turn right and come into the parking lot.
To get to Camp Greyhound, at St. John's Road turn left instead of right and drive north, Westmount is your 3rd left. Turn at Westmount and take your second right, this is St. Paul Road. Drive north up to our home.
400 Alternate at Bradford / Highway 88 / Bondhead
Exit the 400 at the Bradford exit, turn right and drive east to the 10th Sideroad - there are lights and a big Walmart on the northeast corner.
Turn left at the 10th and drive north, there are lights at highway 89 (if you're going to thte Gilford diamond, turn right and drive over to Yonge, the diamond is just south of 89),
You can continue to drive north on the 10th or you can turn right and go over to Yonge. When you get to the 7th concession, turn right, and follow the directions above to get to either the Alcona diamond or Camp Greyhound.
Now you can avoid the construction on Innisfil Beach Road, and also traffic on the 400.
