1. Take your pellets 1/2 hour away from anything by mouth. This means you need a hour free and clear of food and drinks. This also holds true for your pets.
2. After administering pellets, watch your pet's behavior. Good signs include lying down, sleeping and also just seeming better.
3. If you see an improvement after giving a remedy, and then later symptoms return, repeat the dose.
4. Pellets can be given dry or you can make a water remedy, also known as the "medicinal solution". This latter method is preferred by classical homeopathy, but for acute purposes we've found giving dry pellets hasn't caused any problems.
5. There is not agreement about how many pellets are needed. Some feel that one pellet is enough, others say 4 are needed. Most commonly 3 are given. I've used 1 pellet with success.
6. Homeopathy is a complex field, and it takes some time and study to get comfortable using it. Acute care can be learned in a reasonable amount of time (and it is well worth it), but chronic problems really need a practiced homeopath.
7. For any kind of trauma or shock, give Arnica first, and then watch for symptoms that may point to a second remedy. For example, if you've cut yourself badly, Arnica will help with the shock, pain and bleeding. But once that's under control, you may simply have pain, which either Hypericum, Staphysagria or Ledum may help, depending on the symptom picture.
Sometimes administering crushed pellets is easier than pellets, dogs sometimes will spit the pellets out. There will be a video of this procedure posted soon.
-get two spoons of the same kind. They must be clean, and your hands should be freshly washed as well. Lay them on a fresh sheet of paper towel on the counter.
-dispense 3 homeopathic pellets and put them in one of the spoons. Try not to touch the pellets with your hands at all.
-place the empty spoon on top of the first spoon with the pellets, and wrap the paper towel around both of them.
-press the spoons together, this will crush the pellets
-approach your hound, preferably while they are sleeping with their head over on it's side
-unwrap the spoons, keeping them level, and remove the upper empty spoon
-pull the flew of the lip out and dump the crushed pellet on the gums.
-massage the lips a bit to encourage the crushed pellets to start dissolving.
