If your hound has severe diarrhea, especially if it's prolonged or coupled with vomiting, you will need to see a vet, but in the meantime, here's some advice from one of our members who is a paramedic.Big THANK YOU to Renee!
If you are worried about dehydration then check her gums to see if they are moist and pink (good) or tacky to dry to the touch. If she’s panting a lot check her gums near the back. If you aren’t sure what I mean, feel your own first and then feel hers to see if they are similar.
You can also check for skin tenting or “turgor”, which is how quickly the skin returns to its normal shape. A gentle pinch behind the shoulder blades, and watch to see if it stays up, or “tented” for greater than a second or two, or quickly falls back flat. Staying up for 2sec or more is “poor skin turgor”. Tacky or dry gums is an early sign of dehydration, and poor skin turgor is a moderate to advanced sign.
Hope fasting and colloidal silver do the trick!
